KLG Jones was hired to provide Fundamental Commissioning services for the new 20,000 GSF two-story Environmental Studies Building. The building will feature advanced laboratory space, a seminar room, outdoor patio and garden spaces, and classroom/ office space for Wofford’s Department of Environmental Studies as well as other sciences. The building incorporates a rainwater capture system for irrigation and uses cross-laminated timbers (allwood construction). Green Globe certification is a structured assessment of the sustainability performance of the facility.
The building mechanical systems consist of campus provided chilled water and heating hot water, serving four pipe hydronic blower coil units, an energy recovery air handling unit for fresh air and a new DDC building automation system. The building was designed to maximize natural light and contains a rooftop photovoltaic system.
KLG Jones provided fundamental commissioning services including a commissioning kick-off meeting, pre-functional checklists, submittal reviews, site inspections during construction, custom functional performance test scripts, and functional performance testing.
The project opened on schedule for the Fall 2020 semester.
