KLG Jones, LLC was hired in January 2017 by the Owner, Wofford College, to act as the Commissioning Authority for the approximately 123,000 GSF, new, three story, 3,400 seat basketball and 350 seat volleyball arena with locker rooms, training rooms, full kitchen, and support spaces, in Spartanburg, South Carolina.
The facility is conditioned by water-cooled chillers, cooling towers, and associated pumps serving air handling units with variable volume terminal units with electric heat. The project contained a full kitchen make-up air and exhaust system which was commissioned. Electrical systems included specialized lighting controls, power distribution, and grounding. Domestic Hot Water generation and distribution was also included in the commissioning scope.
Commissioning activities for the project began with preparation of a Commissioning Plan and a Commissioning Kick-Off Meeting. A number of field visits were made to verify that the installation was in accordance with the plans and specifications, to hold commissioning meetings, and to supervise startup of major pieces of equipment. Pre-functional checklists were prepared by KLG Jones and distributed to the Contractors prior to the start of functional performance testing. Commissioning of the HVAC, Electrical, and Plumbing systems was completed with the support of the installing contractors. Owner’s training was completed by the General Contractor.
