Description

The project consisted of a new 35,000 square foot laboratory facility for Saint Joseph’s Translational Research Institute and Georgia Tech. The laboratory contained a large vivarium, lab spaces, four operating rooms, procedure rooms, imaging suites, a necropsy suite, cage wash area, offices and support spaces.

Mechanical systems included large central station air handling units with heat recovery serving a VAV distribution system with DDC controls. Chilled water was provided by two new chillers dedicated to the building. Two new boilers serve the hot water heating system. KLG Jones provided full commissioning services for the mechanical, electrical, lighting, emergency power, fire alarm and security systems.

All of the drawings were reviewed at critical times during the design phase of the project.

Commissioning specifications and a commissioning plan were prepared. All of the MEP submittals were reviewed in parallel with the A/E team. Periodic site visits were made to inspect the construction and hold commissioning meetings. Functional performance tests were prepared and the functional testing was conducted in conjunction with the contractors.

All of the test and balance work was validated through random sampling techniques. Pressure relationships were verified for all lab and vivarium spaces. The building was turned over to the Owner fully functional and operating as designed.
