The new Environmental Science and Sustainability Building for Greenville County Schools is a two story facility of approximately 30,000 square foot new construction located on the Roper Mountain Science Center campus and was completed in early 2021.
The $14 Million, 7 Classroom project, includes a Café, and multiple science exhibits in addition to its classrooms, administration and support areas.
The facility, created for students on field trips, uses science exhibits to teach the importance of water, ecology, biodiversity, and the stewardship of our natural resources.
The mechanical systems include dedicated outdoor air units, pack-aged rooftop DX units with gas re-heat, ducted and Ductless split system heat pumps, kitchen exhaust and make up air, exhaust fans, de-humidifiers, and a full DDC building automation system provides a graphical user interface for school district facilities personnel to monitor, control and troubleshoot the HVAC systems.
KLG Jones provided full commissioning for the HVAC systems, domestic plumbing supply, normal and emergency electrical power distribution, and interior and exterior lighting systems and controls.
The commissioning program included review of the project documents and submittals, preparation of com-missioning specifications to be included in the project documents, a commissioning plan, project specific prefunctional checklist, and functional performance test scripts for the systems being commissioned. KLG Jones made periodic site visits during construction to verify proper equipment installation and observe equipment start up. KLG Jones directed and performed, the functional testing of the various systems, deficiency tracking and verification.
