Description

The new Indian Land High School for the Lancaster County School District is a two story facility of approximately 341,000 total square foot new construction located in Indian Land, SC and was occupied in the summer of 2022.

The $100 Million project incorporates a 258,000 square foot high school building designed for 2000 students, and 83,000 square feet for the various athletic field houses and outbuildings. The high school includes a 27,000 square foot cafeteria, 22,400 square foot Career and Technology Center, 1000 seat auditorium, multiple gymnasiums, locker rooms and athletic facilities, in addition to art and music spaces, there are approximately 80 traditional classrooms, science classrooms, computer labs, plus administration and support areas.

The mechanical systems include variable air volume terminal units with hot water reheat, served by variable air volume air conditioning units, single zone rooftop units, split system air conditioning units, exhaust and makeup air systems, and miscellaneous fans and unit heaters. An air cooled chilled water and gas fired hot water plant provide cooling chilled water and heating hot water to the air handling units and terminal units. A DDC building automation system provides a graphical user interface for school district facilities personnel to monitor, control and troubleshoot the HVAC systems.

KLG Jones provided full commissioning for the HVAC systems, domestic plumbing supply, normal and emergency electrical power distribution, and interior, exterior and sports lighting systems and controls.

The commissioning program included review of the project documents and submittals, preparation of commissioning specifications to be included in the project documents, a commissioning plan, project specific prefunctional checklist, and functional performance test scripts for the systems being commissioned. KLG Jones made periodic site visits during construction to verify proper equipment installation and observe equipment start up. KLG Jones directed and performed, the functional testing of the various systems, deficiency tracking and verification.

The project is in the process of LEED certification under BD+C v3.
