The new STEAM Middle School for Greenville County School District is three-story 148,000 gross square feet building.
The $29.4 million construction project was built to hold 1,000 students with a full-service kitchen, dining, gymnasium, media center, and administrative wing.
The mechanical systems were variable refrigerant volume system serving the classroom and administration areas. There were dedicated outdoor air systems to provide ventilation for the occupants. The HVAC systems are controlled via a direct-digital control system with graphical user interface.
KLG Jones provided full commissioning services for the mechanical, electrical, lighting, and plumbing systems. The project achieved three Green Globes through the Green Globe certification process.
All of the drawings were reviewed at critical times during the design phase of the project. Commissioning specifications and a commissioning plan were prepared. All of the MEP submittals were reviewed in parallel with the A/E team. Periodic site visits were made to inspect the construction and hold commissioning meetings. Functional performance tests were prepared and the functional testing was conducted in conjunction with the contractors. All of the test and balance work was validated through random sampling techniques. A complete deficiency list was maintained throughout the project and all of the deficiencies were backchecked prior to signing off on the project.
