The new Statesville Road Elementary School for Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools is approximately 88,000 square feet. The facility, located in North Charlotte, was completed in the summer of 2016.
The project was a two story, 39 classroom elementary school with a full service kitchen, multipurpose dining/gymnasium, media center, and administrative wing. The project team is pursuing LEED certification.
The mechanical systems included variable air volume terminal units with hot water reheat serving the classroom and administration areas. Variable volume air handling units with hot water preheat coils and chilled water cooling coils located in mechanical rooms, provide conditioned air to the terminal units.
Large multiuse spaces are served by constant volume single zone air handling units and roof top units.
An air cooled chiller and gas fired boilers provide the hot water for heating and the chilled water for cooling.
KLG Jones provided full commissioning services for the Mechanical, Electrical, and Fire Protection Systems in the building.
The commissioning program included drawing reviews at the DD and 90% CD levels, preparation of commissioning specifications and the commissioning plan, preparation of pre-commissioning checklists and the functional test forms, review of submittals, field verification of proper equipment installation, observation of equipment start up procedures, full functional testing of the systems being commissioned, organization of the Owner’s training and full project documentation collation electronically.
