Description

The new Palisades High School (fka Olympic Relief High School) for Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools is a three story facility of approximately 325,000 square foot new construction located in the Southwest corner of Mecklenburg County and was completed in the summer of 2022.

The $109 Million, 100 Classroom project, includes a media center, full service kitchen and dining area, multiple gymnasiums and locker rooms, a natatorium, and full athletic facilities, art and music spaces, traditional classrooms, science classrooms, computer labs, administration and support areas.

The mechanical systems include variable air volume terminal units with hot water reheat, served by variable air volume air conditioning units, dedicated outdoor air units with energy recovery and desiccant wheels, single zone rooftop units, split system air conditioning units, exhaust and makeup air systems, and miscellaneous fans and unit heaters. A chilled water and hot water plant provide cooling chilled water and heating hot water to the air handling units and terminal units. A DDC building automation system provides a graphical user interface for school district facilities personnel to monitor, control and troubleshoot the HVAC systems.

KLG Jones provided full commissioning for the HVAC systems, domestic plumbing supply, normal and emergency electrical power distribution, and interior, exterior and sports lighting systems and controls, fire alarm, security, intercom and sound systems, and the building envelope.

The commissioning program included review of the project documents and submittals, preparation of commissioning specifications to be included in the project documents, a commissioning plan, project specific prefunctional checklist, and functional performance test scripts for the systems being commissioned. KLG Jones made periodic site visits during construction to verify proper equipment installation and observe equipment start up. KLG Jones directed and performed, the functional testing of the various systems, deficiency tracking and verification, and  building envelope pressurized and depressurized air leakage testing.
