KLG Jones was originally hired in 2013 to provide LEED MEP commissioning services for the new 82,500 GSA single-story business building in Hickory, North Carolina.
The building is oriented to take advantage of natural lighting strategies, work within the existing site grades and pursued LEED Silver certification. The building includes classrooms,, offices, HVAC lab/shop areas, welding lab/shop areas, automotive lab/shop areas, machining & CNC lab/shop areas, locker areas, break alcoves, and lounge/ media center.
The commissioned systems were air handling units, VAV’s, A/C units, outside air units, boilers, pumps, chiller, exhaust fans, exhaust hoods and vacuums, louvers, unit heaters, water heaters, fume hoods, heat pumps, DDC control system, and the automotive exhaust system. Electrical lighting controls, daylighting, and the emergency power systems were also part of this project, as was the domestic water system.
Commissioning activities were completed in January 2019. The project achieved LEED Silver certification in July 2019. KLG Jones provided multiple design reviews, reviewed the OPR and BOD, and developed Commissioning specifications for bid documents. We reviewed MEP submittals, conducted construction site inspections and full functional testing.
