Description

The new CE Williams Middle School for the Charleston County School District is a two story facility of approximately 135,227 square foot new construction located in the West Ashley neighborhood of Charleston, SC.

The $53.3 Million, 900 student project, includes a media center, full service kitchen and dining area, gymnasium and locker rooms, art and music spaces, traditional classrooms, science classrooms, computer labs, administration and support areas.

The mechanical systems include variable air volume terminal units with electric reheat, served by a rooftop VAV air conditioning unit with gas fired heat, energy recover rooftop air conditioning units with energy recovery wheels and gas fired heat, dedicated outside air units with energy recovery wheel and desiccant wheels, single-zone rooftop heat pumps, split-system heat pumps and air conditioning units, exhaust and makeup air systems, and miscellaneous fans and unit heaters. A DDC building automation system provides a graphical user interface for school district facilities personnel to monitor, control and troubleshoot the HVAC systems.

KLG Jones provided whole building energy modeling, test and balance services, and full commissioning for the HVAC systems, domestic plumbing system, electrical power distribution, and lighting systems

The commissioning program included review of the project documents and submittals, preparation of commissioning specifications to be included in the project documents, a commissioning plan, project specific pre-commissioning checklist, and functional performance test scripts for the systems being commissioned. KLG Jones made periodic site visits during construction to verify proper equipment installation and observe equipment start up.

A full test and balance of the HVAC systems was performed and a report generated prior to the start of functional testing.
