KLG Jones is proud to announce it’s partnering on a new green building project at Clemson. The goal is to attain Green Globes certification for the university’s Advanced Materials Innovation Complex (AMIC). Currently under construction, the AMIC building will be Clemson’s most technologically advanced facility. The university is located in western South Carolina.
Offered by the EPA, the Green Globes program is described as “a series of rating and certification systems that encourage improved environmental and health performance for all types of buildings except residential structures. Green Globes™ is administered in the United States by the Green Building Initiative.” It is considered an alternative to LEED certification.
KLG Jones is routinely hired by corporations across the southeastern United States to perform energy audits and also to assist with the retrofitting of existing commercial buildings, for increased energy efficiency. The engineering firm, which conducts a wide variety of commissioning projects across the southeastern US, has worked with Clemson University on nearly a dozen projects.
The sustainability subject areas addressed by the Green Globes initiative include energy and water efficiency; materials and resource use; indoor environmental quality; emissions; sustainable sites; and project / environmental management. The EPA’s program is entirely voluntary, which speaks to Clemson’s commitment to sustainable practices.
